JOKER DUBSTEP ‘S NEW GAME CAN DO NO WRONG

JOKER DUBSTEP ‘S GAME CAN DO NO WRONG

Stepping out of the shadows in 2007 when just sixteen years old, Joker Dubstep stock has risen dramatically since. Aided by him releasing defining cuts like ‘Digidesign’, ‘The Vision (Let Me Breathe)’ and ‘Tron’, he now finds himself thick in the recent resurgence of British electronic music.

Prior to this, new tracks ‘Here Come The Lights’ and ‘My Trance Girl’, are being released on a 12” and as a download on September 12th.

Following on from the Radio 1 and 1Xtra playlisted ‘The Vision (Let Me Breathe)’, both stations got involved last night with ‘Here Come The Lights’ being given its first play in the coveted Hottest Record In The World spot on the Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 show, quickly followed by MistaJam spinning it on their sister station.

It highlights the young producer’s maturing sound, continuing to playfully subvert pop conventions. The track also features a bombastic and memorable vocal performance from Silas from Turboweekend. You can hear it here now.

On the flip, ‘My Trance Girl’ is a futuristic six-minute instrumental, more in line with what first hooked Joker Dubstep fans;

its muscular vintage-Sega aping synths and sharp drum snaps a nod to his roots in Bristol’s fecund dance music scene.

Joker Dubstep ‘s sound is busy this summer playing festivals worldwide seemingly every weekend (he premiered most album tracks at Glastonbury) and is headed to Australia, Japan, the United States as well as most of Europe before the year’s end.

JOKER DUBSTEP LABEL “HYPERDUB”

Hyperdub label manager Marcus Scott Say’s What Will Attract Him To An Artist.

“There is no major philosophy behind it all, but it’s important to have some sense of mystery and retain complete independence over what and how you do it. Do not give everyone everything straight off the bat and if you are deadly serious about putting tracks out there then you should not fuck about with any thing else. We at Hyperdub just put out great music where the class is always high and that should be plenty to keep it fresh.”

Which is why, Marcus believes, it’s Hyperdub over any other label with a massive marketing approach and budget that has bagged them the award for ‘Best Label’ in the Best of British awards, and this is why the label has an audience of devoted fans who essentially buy their records instead of hundreds of thousands of so-called Facebook ‘friends’.

“We have truly worked hard on circulating records like the fifth anniversary compilation and the King Midas Sound album this year,” he say’s. “It’s good that all the people who have been trying to get them have actually gave us there vote instead, which counts for a lot more than the Mercury Music Prize industry ‘insider votes.”
